Brooke’s Story (Anti-D, Anti-C, Anti-E)

I lost my first baby, Kayden, to alloimmunization in 2011. She was stillborn at 31 weeks after an emergency C-section.

In the years that followed, I went on to have two successful pregnancies in 2013 and 2014, though neither came without complications or constant monitoring. Today, my son Carter is 13 and my daughter Avery is 11.

Two years ago, I became pregnant again with my daughter Olivia. We were monitoring closely throughout the entire pregnancy. Then, at almost 36 weeks, just three days after an appointment where everything looked fine, I noticed she had stopped moving.

We rushed to the hospital and learned she was severely anemic. I had to undergo an emergency C-section immediately.

She was very sick. Olivia spent 17 days in the NICU and required four blood transfusions after birth. She also had liver damage. It was one of the most terrifying experiences of our lives.

But she fought. After intense treatment and time to heal, she made a full recovery. Today, she is the most joyful little two-year-old.

I am currently 14 weeks pregnant with another little girl. We’ve learned that IVIG may be an option this time, and I am expected to begin treatment soon.

My antibody levels are already very high, so we don’t know how effective it will be. But we are willing to try anything.

After everything we’ve been through, we are hopeful, but also incredibly anxious. We are praying for a safe pregnancy and a healthy baby.
