How to Use the Bili Tool (PediTools Bili 2022)
This is a free online tool that helps calculate if your baby’s bilirubin level is in a safe range.
Website: https://peditools.org/bili2022/
Here is what to enter:
- Your baby’s gestational age (how many weeks pregnant you were)
- Your baby’s age in hours (how old they are now)
- Your baby’s bilirubin number (from a blood test)
- Check the box for “neurotoxicity risk factors” if your baby has HDFN or a positive Coombs test
Then click Calculate.
The tool will show:
- If your baby is in a safe range
- If they need phototherapy now
- If they are close to needing a transfusion
What You Can Do as a Parent
- Watch for yellowing of the skin or eyes, especially in the first two days
- Ask your care team what your baby’s bilirubin levels are
- If your baby has HDFN or a positive DAT (Coombs), make sure they are being checked often
- Know that treatments like phototherapy are safe and work well when started early
